At the Commemorative Ceremony of 42 years Anniversary for the founding of Construction Corporation No.1 – JSC – JSC

 [Excerpt from the opening speech of the Board of Directors Chairman to the entire leadership and employees of CC1 on October 1, 2021]

Greetings ladies and gentlemen, leaders and former leaders of CC1,

Greetings to all CC1 employees working in the office to construction sites,

Excellencies our distinguished guests, today is the 42th Founding Anniversary of Construction Corporation No.1 – JSC (CC1), October 1st, how fortunate this is to also be the first day Ho Chi Minh city lifted social distancing restrictions. We now have the chance to gather all here to meet and greet, in celebration of the corporation founding anniversary while complying with the 5K rules.

Along with me, please friends and folks, let’s look back on the journey we had together:

+   October 1, 1979: The Establishment of Construction Corporation No. 1 from the merger of three companies: Construction company no.8, Construction company no.10 and Urban & Industrial Zone Development company;

+    1995: Re-established after Decision no.995/BXD-TCLD signed on November 20 of the Minister of Construction;

+    2006: Officially operating under the model of Parent Company - Subsidiary Company;

+    2010: Turning the Parent Company - Construction Corporation No. 1 into a one-member limited liability company;

+    2017: Officially switched to the operating model of a public company;

+ November 2020: Officially divested 100% of state capital.

It has been 42 years since, a long journey pertaining to remarkable histories, was highly evacuated as the top unit in Construction. As CC1 members, we are proud to receive the awards "High quality construction"", "High quality construction package", and "Best quality contractor" award. We have built significant projects such as Tri An hydropower plant, Phu My thermal power plant, Holcim cement factory, Vinamilk dairy factory, Thu Thiem bridge, Van Thanh 2 bridge, Dong Nai bridge, Children's hospital of Ho Chi Minh City, Tien Giang general hospital, Binh Duong general hospital, Tra Vinh hospital, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Duc University, Diamond Plaza Building, Sailing Tower, Caravelle Hotel, Hon Tre Tourist Area, Happy City Residential Area,... and most recently is the Quang Trach 1 Thermal Power plant project values over 5,000 billion VND. We have progressed to become the leading contractor, standing shoulder to shoulder with international giants in the CC1-Mitsubishi-Hyundai E&C consortium.

A journey worth being proud of and even more proud of when we operate in all fields from transport infrastructure construction to industry and civil, our role is not only contractor but also real estate and transport infrastructure investors,... We are proud of what CC1 has contributed to society, to our country.

A big thank you to all the aunts and uncles, brothers and sisters, especially the senior leaders generation of CC1 who lit and passed on the torch of enthusiasm from generations to another, who resonated CC1's name, created pride for those who had, are and will be members of CC1!

Excellencies our dear guests,

Today is the 42nd Anniversary for the establishment of the company. Normally, we celebrate milestones like 20 years, 30 years, 40 years, but this anniversary, even though it is an odd number of 42, is important to all of our brothers and sisters. Why is that? It marks the big turning point for CC1 – the first year when we fully transition state capital to privatization of private equitization. As the head, I always find it an honor but also a challenge as I look at CC1's journey in the future.

The more I thought about it, the more I was concerned. It was true that CC1 had brilliant times, which used to be the dream of many students still sitting in the university lecture hall. But as time passes by, do we still retain this position? If there is any image to express this, I would like to borrow the image of our own body. We have to look back and see if CC1 after 42 years is the same as our body after 42 years? We have to look back to see how well we are? Which organs and body parts have gradually aged? Is the body's intensity every day lacking exercise, lacking vitamin supplements, so now it becomes weaker, slower than the rapid changes, the new pressures of today's society? Especially due to the impact of COVID-19 pandemic globally, let alone we are in Ho Chi Minh City, the center of this raging epidemic in Vietnam?

We must frankly look at the facts to be aware who we are, where are we standing? Today it is probably not officially said, but we all admit that many other brands, despite being born late, have surpassed us, shined and have gained a name in the market such as the construction sector with Hoa Binh, Coteccons, or as real estate with Novaland, Vingroup, ... the names we need to work hard to compete with.

Brothers and sisters,

A practical lesson from a Nokia phone or a Blackberry smartphone, if you keep living on pride and always think of yourself as number 1 without self-enhancement and innovation, you will disappear from the market. And CC1 we are no exception. When I think of this, and then think about what the next journey CC1 needs to do after a 42-year journey with the new owner, having to stand on his own two feet, I am again reminded of the image of the Eagle after a journey of twenty years of exhausting flight, it is time to stop up the high mountain grinding mines, changing feathers to take on a new shape, energizing the journey of the next twenty years.

Yes, everyone, when COVID happened, many businesses even had to stop, close, production and business activities cannot be accelerated as before. In such a difficult context we insist on not giving up, not succumbing, turning difficulties into opportunities: let's take advantage of this time, learn the Eagle lesson to focus on refreshing themselves, building systems, standardizing process regulations, improving governance mechanisms with modernity, technical technology, technological technical improvements and, importantly, improving leadership capacity, professional capacity, management in the direction of modernity and building a working culture, referring to CC1 is to immediately think of a Reliable Partner, full of humanity and professionalism working environment, referring to people of CC1 immediately pops up the image of high professional capacity, good leadership and a spirit of integrity in every action, every deed.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I hope all of you are aware that we are all sailing together on the CC1 ship with a desire to express ourselves, a desire to reach out to the great sea. And I also hope you are aware that our ship is currently in the middle of the open sea with many difficulties: the fierce competition with large corporations, companies that are rich in potential and stronger than us in many aspects, financially, systemwise, even in talents; we are in the COVID thunderstorm, so it requires us to make every effort to survive. Going to the big ocean, do you want a net full of fish? I firmly believe yes. Personally, as the owner of this ship, I always wish we could net the fish not only enough to share within us, but a lot more than enough to share between us.However, it is not a one-man-thing, be it not just the leader, but a joint group effort, each with a helping hand, all in unison, the same rowing rhythm, doing the best of them. I don't want to leave anyone behind, but having agreed to set sail into the sea, then please join me in blowing up the vitality, pumping new energy to CC1, drastically doing what needs to be done, producing specific results, finding every possible solution for us to reach the finish line in 2021 qualifying net revenue and profit after tax target.

Finally, once again, thank you to the leaders of the CC1 generations, thank you for building the journey of the last 42 years, and now let's continue to write new pages with new prides, worthy of the spirit of "We can build it all", "Overcoming all challenges”.
