However, for many years, the transportation system crossing the Dong Nai River has failed to keep pace with the rapid development of the urban-industrial-logistics region.

When completed, the Cat Lai Bridge will enhance traffic capacity and promote socio-economic development between the two localities, Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City.

The fact that Dong Nai province is implementing two major bridge projects across the Dong Nai River, the Cat Lai Bridge and the Long Hung Bridge, under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and Build-Transfer (BT) contract models, is seen as clear evidence of the local government's "bold and decisive" spirit in addressing inter-regional infrastructure bottlenecks.

The Long Hung Bridge project aims to meet the urgent need for traffic connectivity between the northern and northeastern areas of Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province, contributing to reducing pressure and improving traffic congestion on key transportation routes such as Hanoi Highway and the Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay expressway.

The project is being implemented in Long Phuoc ward, Ho Chi Minh City and Tam Phuoc ward, An Phuoc commune, Dong Nai province. The project's starting point is located on the bridge approach road, approximately 2.53 km from the Go Cong interchange in Ho Chi Minh City; the project's end point connects to the Bien Hoa-Vung Tau expressway.

In addition, the impetus for regional connectivity has become stronger as Dong Nai province has decided to invest in the construction of the Cat Lai bridge project after many years of waiting.

The Cat Lai Bridge project is located in Dai Phuoc commune, Dong Nai province and Cat Lai ward, Ho Chi Minh City. The project's starting point is on Nguyen Thi Dinh road, approximately 400 meters from the My Thuy intersection. The project's end point connects to the Ben Luc-Long Thanh expressway at approximately kilometer 33 plus 200 of the expressway's mileage.

The project has a total length of approximately 11.64 km, ensuring a scale of 6 lanes for motorized vehicles and 2 lanes for non-motorized vehicles. The main bridge has a total width of 33.5 m, the approach bridge on the Ho Chi Minh City side consists of two branches, each 15.25 m wide, and the approach bridge on the Dong Nai side has a width of 30 m. The approach road on the Dai Phuoc commune side will initially consist of two parallel roads running on either side, each 13.25 m wide. The project is being prepared since 2025 and construction is scheduled to begin between 2026 and 2029.

Upon completion, the Cat Lai Bridge construction project will enhance traffic capacity, ensure traffic safety on the transportation network, and promote socio-economic development between Dong Nai province and Ho Chi Minh City.

Infrastructure is expected to pave the way for development.

The Long Hung Bridge project has a total length of approximately 9.8 km, requiring about 52.8 hectares of land, of which the main bridge and approach bridges are about 3.5 km long. The Long Hung Bridge is designed with 6 lanes for motorized vehicles and 2 lanes for mixed traffic, a width of 36 m, and a clearance height and navigable width to ensure smooth traffic flow for ships entering and exiting ports and wharves in the area. Construction is expected to take place from 2026 to 2028.

According to the plan, the groundbreaking ceremony for the two projects will be held on January 15th, to celebrate the National Party Congress, and the official commencement of construction is expected to coincide with the anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day on April 30th. Linking the project implementation milestones to important political and historical events demonstrates the determination to bring major infrastructure projects into practice as soon as possible, serving the development of the country.

Experts believe that when the two bridges over the Dong Nai River are completed, not only will the traffic problem be solved, but a completely new development space will be activated. Urban areas, industrial zones, logistics centers, and service centers around the Long Thanh airport area will have the conditions to develop strongly, contributing to enhancing the competitiveness of the entire region.

The existing Cat Lai ferry will be replaced by the Cat Lai bridge over the Dong Nai River, connecting Dong Nai province and Ho Chi Minh City.

With a systematic approach, long-term vision, and a high sense of responsibility, Dong Nai is gradually asserting its role as a pioneering locality in infrastructure development, making positive contributions to the sustainable development goals of the Southern key economic region and the whole country.

On January 10th, the People's Committee of Dong Nai province decided to approve the results of the special investor selection for the Cat Lai and Long Hung bridge projects (Dong Nai 2 bridge), implemented under the public-private partnership (PPP) model, specifically the BT (build-transfer) contract.
