CAT LAI BRIDGE AND LONG HUNG BRIDGE: CONQUERING COMPLEX ENGINEERING CHALLENGES, NEW SYMBOLS ON THE DONG NAI RIVER

On September 29, 2026, in Dai Phuoc commune, Dong Nai city, two consortiums of investors and two project enterprises, in coordination with the Dong Nai City government, held a groundbreaking ceremony to officially activate the construction of Component 2 of the Cat Lai Bridge and Long Hung Bridge (Dong Nai 2 Bridge) projects under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.

These two strategic transportation infrastructure projects are expected to enhance connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai Province, complete the inter-regional transportation network, and expand urban, industrial, and logistics development spaces associated with Long Thanh International Airport.

Leaders, representatives from the governments of Dong Nai City and Ho Chi Minh City, and partners participated in the event.

Not only are the Cat Lai and Long Hung bridges large in scale, but they also present unique technical and construction organization requirements, ranging from structural and foundation solutions to wind impact control and ensuring architectural value during construction. These are also the aspects that CC1 and related parties focused on researching and preparing before entering the implementation phase.

Delegates pressed the button at the groundbreaking ceremony for Component Project 2 – the Cat Lai Bridge Construction Project and the Long Hung Bridge Construction Project (Dong Nai 2 Bridge) under the public-private partnership (PPP) method.

Two projects, two unique engineering challenges.

The Cat Lai Bridge has a total length of over 11.6 km, of which the main bridge and approach bridges are approximately 3.65 km long. The main bridge is designed as a cable-stayed structure with two planes of cables, a main span of 450 m, and a clearance of 55 m for navigation, meeting the requirements for container ships with a deadweight capacity of up to 60,000 DWT. The project utilizes a composite steel girder solution to withstand dynamic wind conditions along with ultra-deep pile foundations under complex geological conditions, requiring strict control over the structure, foundations, and construction organization on a high-traffic waterway.

Perspective view of Cat Lai Bridge

It is known that the Cat Lai Bridge construction project is being implemented by a consortium of investors including Construction Corporation No. 1 – JSC (CC1), CC1 Asset Management and Services Company Limited, and CC1 Investment Joint Stock Company. In January 2026, CC1 Cat Lai Company Limited was established as the project enterprise, directly organizing, managing, and implementing the Cat Lai Bridge construction project.

Meanwhile, the Long Hung Bridge construction project is being implemented by a consortium of investors including Construction Corporation No. 1 – JSC (CC1), CC1 Investment Joint Stock Company, and Southern Infrastructure and Energy Joint Stock Company. CC1 Long Hung Company Limited is the project enterprise, directly organizing, managing, and implementing the project.

The Long Hung Bridge is a special-grade transportation project with a total length of 3,513 meters and a bridge deck width of 37 meters, comprising 6 lanes for motorized vehicles and 2 lanes for mixed traffic. The main bridge utilizes a single-plane cable-stayed structure, with a main span of 350 meters and bridge towers 175 meters high. This structural design requires high demands on torsional and load-bearing calculations, as well as cantilever construction techniques across a wide cross-section. Upon completion, Long Hung will be the widest single-plane cable-stayed bridge in Vietnam.

Architectural design and project realization capabilities.

Beyond technical requirements, the two bridges were designed with architectural considerations to create new landmarks on the Dong Nai River. The Cat Lai Bridge embodies the concept of "Reaching New Heights," combining soft lines inspired by the river with robust, modern forms, aiming for harmony with the landscape and the local identity. The two main towers are designed in the shape of teardrops, creating a graceful architectural line and a striking landmark at the gateway connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Dong Nai City.

The Long Hung Bridge was developed based on the concept of "Aspiration to Soar High," with the image of "Two Swords United" expressed through two towers rising and converging at the top; the details of Bien Hoa ceramic reliefs combined with the artistic LED lighting system contribute to creating a unique impression for the structure.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan – General Director of CC1 Long Hung Co., Ltd., representing the project enterprise, stated: “Long Hung is not only a project with complex technical requirements but also possesses high aesthetic, architectural, and landscape value, aiming to become an infrastructure highlight and a symbol of the locality.” The project enterprise is determined to focus resources, equipment, and personnel, while strengthening coordination with relevant agencies, consultants, and contractors to ensure quality, safety, and progress of implementation.
