Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) announced that on April 12, at the Quang Trach Power Center (Quang Tri province), Unit 1 of the Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant successfully connected to the grid for the first time.
The project is invested by Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) and directly managed and operated by the Power Project Management Board 2 (EVNPMB2).
This event is a significant step forward, paving the way for the first unit of the Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant to be connected to the national power grid in May, contributing to supplementing the power supply to meet demand during the hot season.
The initial grid connection was carried out to facilitate testing, calibration, and acceptance of the unit's systems and equipment before official commissioning. During this process, the unit was synchronized with the national power grid, and the operational capabilities of the turbine, generator, and control system were checked according to technical procedures.
The initial grid connection results showed that the basic technical parameters of the generating unit met the design requirements, and it operated stably and safely. This is an important basis for the units to continue implementing the next testing steps, moving towards completing the entire acceptance process before commercial power generation.

This activity marked a significant transition for the project from the construction phase to the trial operation phase. It also affirmed the organizational and implementation capabilities of the investor, the Project Management Board, and participating units in bringing a large-scale power plant project to completion on schedule.
Upon commissioning, the Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant (comprising two units with a total capacity of 1,403 MW) will contribute to strengthening the electricity supply for the national power grid, especially during peak load periods. The timely completion of the first grid connection is of significant importance in the context of increasing electricity demand, particularly during the hot season.
EVN and EVNPMB2 will continue to coordinate with relevant units to focus on completing the remaining items, accelerating the testing and adjustment process to bring Unit 1 into stable, safe and efficient operation.
The Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant project is one of the important power generation projects in the national power plan, contributing to ensuring national energy security. At the same time, the project also aims to develop a green, clean, and sustainable energy center.
